However, when the brand’s new sequence, UNI series, was launched, we once again refreshed our understanding of the Changan brand. I believe that the first model of the UNI family – UNI-T has left a deep impression on you, especially its concept car-like exterior styling, and recently, the second model of the UNI family – UNI-K has finally met us, before the new car is launched, the professor also has a preemptive experience, so how does this car perform in all aspects? Although the test drive location is in the “Chang’an Base Camp” – Chongqing, but the Chongqing people who deal with Chang’an models every day have also become very interested in UNI-K, and on this day of the test drive, no matter where they go, people will come to ask one or two, so in terms of design freshness, UNI-K is indeed successful.

As the second model of the UNI series, UNI-K continues the design language of the UNI series well and is futuristic. If it weren’t for the blue plate, the design of the borderless grille would definitely make some people think that this is a pure electric car, and of course it will also make people think that this is a concept car.

For now, the application of borderless air intake grilles to fuel vehicles is indeed a very novel thing, after all, its visual effect is very unique. Looking closely, the internal elements of the grille are the result of digital design, and it also covers the flat brand logo and camera.

Due to the larger body of the car, the UNI-K headlight group did not continue the coherent design of UNI-T, and the official called this pair of slender light groups “starship headlights”, which is a full LED light source inside, and is equipped with automatic headlights, flowing water turn signals and other configurations.

The daytime running lights resembling the “Trident” are distributed on both sides of the front surround, and the design is also fresh enough.

The Changan UNI-K is positioned as a mid-size SUV with a length, width and height of 4865/1948/1690mm and a wheelbase of 2890mm.

It is worth mentioning that after comparing the size of UNI-K with Changan CS75 PLUS and Changan CS85, it can be found that although its length is in between, the wheelbase even exceeds the CS95, you must know that CS95 belongs to the field of medium and large SUVs, so the wheelbase will be a major selling point of UNI-K.

In terms of design, the side shape of UNI-K has a touch of sportiness in the solidity, and the part behind the C-pillar is also a bit slippery, plus the window area is relatively small, and the overall visual effect is more coordinated.

In addition, there is a concave surface under the doors, which makes the side design not look boring, but the “black vents” in front are only decorative parts and have no practical effect.

As a sci-fi design SUV, hidden door handles also appear on UNI-K. In terms of actual operation, since the test drive is a front row with keyless entry function, it only needs to touch the sensing positions of the two front doors, and the four door handles of the whole car can be ejected/retracted.

In terms of wheels, the new car will provide 20-inch and 21-inch specifications according to different configuration versions, this test drive is equipped with 21-inch multi-spoke wheels, and the four tires are MC6 from the horse brand, the specification is 265/45 R21, the market price of the tire is about 1400 yuan / piece.

Compared to the sci-fi front design, the rear of the UNI-K has a more traditional sports SUV feel, including the high brake lights at the top and the diffuser below are all featured on the UNI-T.

Of course, UNI-K has further improved the details, such as the use of concave and convex through-type taillights, which have a strong sense of three-dimensionality, and the interior has added elements similar to the front grille, which is highly recognizable when lit.

In addition, the bottom is equipped with a two-sided exhaust port with a total of four exits, while the light strip above the exhaust port is a reversing light, and the inverted triangle light between the exhausts is a fog lamp.

Entering the car, UNI-K can also bring a sci-fi, avant-garde feeling, many details and functions are worth scrutinizing, and in terms of overall styling, the new car’s center console is simple and layered, and in terms of color matching, the new car provides two schemes: double color and all black.

In terms of materials, the test drive model uses a lot of soft materials, and adds piano paint panels, brushed panels, and stitching in many places, which make it feel good.

Of course, the most attractive thing in the car is this 10.25 + 9.2 + 3.5 inch triple full LCD instrument, the whole instrument is presented in an irregular narrow shape, and its interior is mainly divided into three areas.

The leftmost screen mainly displays information such as tire pressure monitoring, door opening status, and vehicle energy transfer.

The main display of the rightmost screen is basic information such as driving mode, speed, G value and fuel level, and it also integrates a very useful function – streaming mirror.

Why did you choose to lay out streaming mirrors in this location? When you sit in the driver’s seat and look back, you can understand that due to the rear of the car, the viewable area of the rearview mirror in the car is further compressed, and the streaming mirror on the right screen is quite practical, and I have been turning it on all day of the test drive, and the method of turning on/off is also very simple, only through the right side of the steering wheel functional area to achieve with one button.

The main screen of the triple screen is still the middle one, but because the left and right screens have taken up some “workload”, the middle screen is not too complicated to use.

There are not many functions that can be set on the middle screen, and the main thing in the entire menu is to switch the display mode, including navigation mode and minimalist mode. The first is the minimalist mode, where information such as speed and assisted driving functions are distributed at the top, and there is a simple navigation display on the left.

The navigation mode provides as many as three, which are panorama, AR, and normal. Among them, the most noteworthy is the AR mode, in which navigation and real scenes are combined, and the display form is more technological, such as route guidance, turning guidance, etc., the overall accuracy is still OK, but the picture quality needs to be improved.

Perhaps in order to match the visual experience of the triple instrument cluster, UNI-K adopts a steering wheel with a flat bottom above and below, and the upper flat bottom is mainly to avoid blocking the line of sight of the instrument, and the entire steering wheel shape has a bit of an aircraft feeling.

However, compared with the traditional D-shaped or full-circle steering wheel, the UNI-K’s steering wheel still takes a little time to get used to, especially when playing directions.

Coming to the center control screen, this 12.3-inch touch screen is more common, its UI design is relatively simple, it is not difficult to use, and it integrates navigation, music, vehicle settings and other functions.

It is worth mentioning that UNI-K also supports gesture interaction, drivers can learn specific gestures through the center control screen, and the main functions that can be controlled include music switching and navigating destinations.

Speaking of multimedia configuration, we have to mention the SONY speaker on the right side of the driver’s seat headrest, and the driver can set the switch of the speaker through the center control screen, which includes three progressive modes, namely headrest mode, headrest assist, and headrest off.

When switching to headrest mode, the speaker becomes the main source output in the car, allowing the driver to feel as if the sound is right next to the ears. As for the headrest assist and headrest off, the source effect is gradually distributed to other speakers as shown in the figure.

The dual-zone air conditioning automatic control panel under the central control screen is also designed for touch, and the internal functions are very familiar to us, but the panel will be reflective in the case of strong sunlight, and sometimes it will be difficult to see clearly.

In addition, the UNI-K adopts an electronic gear handle, and the instrument panel provides a gear display when changing gears, allowing the driver to confirm that the gear is correct.

The rear of the gear lever integrates the driving mode switching knob (including ECO, NORMAL, SPORT), P-gear, panoramic image switch, etc., and the overall configuration of UNI-K is rich enough.

The wheelbase figures of the UNI-K are indeed excellent, but the numbers alone are not enough to feel the size of it, you have to sit in the back yourself! The riding legroom in the rear can no longer be described by “a few punches”.

Legs couldn’t be simpler, and according to official accounts, the “Big Five” is also UNI-K’s main selling point.

In addition, the UNI-K seats are very soft, especially when sitting in the back, there will be a feeling of “sinking”, and the rear seat backs have a certain angle of inclination, so it is comfortable enough to ride for a long time.

In addition, the rear floor of UNI-K is basically flat, which is very friendly for intermediate passengers; At the same time, it also provides rear discharge wind control and rear USB configuration to meet the needs of daily use.

In terms of storage space, thanks to the use of electronic file handles, UNI-K also leaves a large storage space under the handlebar, which also provides TF card slots, USB excuses and 12V power supply excuses.

In terms of the trunk, the overall design is unconventional, and the rear seats support 4/6 ratio reclining, unfortunately the trunk is not equipped with the function of reclining seats with one button.

And probably due to the thickness of the seat cushion, the seat cannot be reclined to get a fully flat space. But overall, UNI-K’s trunk storage performance is still excellent.

It is worth mentioning that the model of this test drive is also equipped with a large panoramic sunroof, coupled with a large seating space, the view sitting in the car is very spacious, without a little depression.

In terms of power, Changan UNI-K is the first model equipped with the new generation Blue Whale 2.0T + Aisin 8AT power system, with a maximum power of 233 horsepower and a peak torque of 390 Nm, and will also be available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.

Equipped with the upgraded and improved Blue Whale 2.0T engine, UNI-K has become the highest data fuel vehicle in the Changan series, and the main upgrades of the new generation engine include: the application of advanced 350bar high-pressure direct injection + high tumble air duct combustion system, Alto/Atkinson dual cycle, twin-scroll electronically controlled turbocharging, dual-outlet integrated exhaust manifold and other more than 20 advanced technologies of the Blue Whale platform.

In the actual experience, although UNI-K has good horsepower data, but the overall feeling is mainly smooth, after matching with Aisin 8AT, the power output of the whole vehicle is very linear, whether it is in urban traffic jams or high-speed sections, UNI-K is still “smooth to people”.

Of course, 233 horsepower is enough to provide an excellent feeling of acceleration, and even in NOR normal mode, the car starts very briskly; After switching to SPORT sport mode, the power of the whole car is more “heel”, the climb of the speed is almost synchronized with the pedal, and the power connection is smoother, I believe this is also a highlight of UNI-K.

As for the chassis, first look at the configuration performance, UNI-K is a front MacPherson + rear multi-link independent suspension structure, in one sentence to describe the chassis feeling, that is, “hard with soft”. This is not a contradiction, although the UNI-K’s suspension tuning is generally sporty and belongs to the hard category, but in many cases it can bring a comfortable ride and can perfectly filter some small bumps on the road.

Then there is the “hard” side, which does not mean that the suspension is very hard and has too much impact on the shape of the cabin, but the road surface information is clearer, retaining a certain road feel, and at the same time providing good lateral support in corners. The professor believes that even if UNI-K is positioned as an urban family SUV, its avant-garde, sporty appearance will still be sought after by young people, so it is not difficult to understand why the suspension tuning of the car will not be blindly soft, after all, it must leave a chance for young people who love driving.

Changan UNI-K will finally go on the market or wait until March, and the current price information is unknown, but the official note mentions that UNI-K will be “the advantage of Chinese brands occupying the 200,000 price range”, and a lot of information can be mined from this sentence.

The first is the price prediction, the professor guessed that the price range of the UNI-K 2.0T version is between 160,000 and 200,000 yuan, and the main competitors include WEY Mocha, which is also about to be launched and focuses on technology.

Of course, the phrase “set off the advantage of Chinese brands occupying the price range of 200,000 yuan” also tells us that UNI-K will compete with joint venture products, so it includes joint venture models such as Guandao, which is also the main “big five-seater”, and will be UNI-K’s competitors in the future.

Compared with a number of joint venture compact/mid-size SUVs, UNI-K’s advantages are also obvious enough, such as avant-garde design, technology configuration and space, etc., are better than many joint venture products, so in the range of less than 200,000, UNI-K may pose a certain threat to some joint venture SUVs, and it is also more concerned by contemporary young people.

It is worth mentioning that at present, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the declaration information of the UNI-K 1.5T version, and the professor learned from the relevant staff during the test drive that the price of the UNI-K 1.5T version may be perfectly connected with the UNI-T model to fill the market between UNI-T and UNI-K 2.0T models. That is, the price range of the UNI-K 1.5T version is between 140,000 and 160,000.

More sci-fi appearance, more creative interior, more mature power system, as the flagship model of Changan UNI family, the arrival of UNI-K is indeed more amazing than UNI-T, and it also breaks our perception of Changan brand.
